I really enjoyed its informative and kind employees.
The place was little and rooms here were comfortable. The location was brilliant, near the legendary Cartagena, and the center of the nighttime fun in the Getsemani District, in a lovely area. Besides, it was 25 mins walk from Playa de las Tenazas.

the room was decent sized and air conditioned, and it had climate control and a balcony that were useful.

This is a very pretty hotel with a lovely courtyard. We found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant. We also very much liked being able to prepare our own breakfast (and other meals if we wished) in the kitchen made available to guests. It was quiet, even though located on a fairly busy street.
There was no hot water -- not in the sense that the warm/hot water was not sufficiently hot, but there was no hot water provided at all. For a hotel that charges as much as the Villa Colonial, this was surprising, and a disappointment.

Within walking distance of the Old City. A block away from major bus routes. Community kitchen facilities with a fabulous upstairs patio for dining on the meals you prepare. A bit Bohemian, but the courtyard can have an amazing international "vibe." Easy access to the Wall. Many shops nearby for provisions. Many small local restaurants nearby.
No hot water. (Typical of many tropical locales) Staff have limited English. There's a noisy native bar about a half block away. The neighborhood is somewhat seedy and shady, but it is being gentrified.

I booked a room online with Villa Colonial. In my booking I specifically requested an air conditioned room, which they confirmed and also indicated my room would have a city view, which it didn'T. And quoted me a price which I paid for, in advance, by credit card. When I arrived they put me in a non air conditioned room and when I complained they informed me that I would have to pay 60% more money. I found this unfair and misleading and when I tried to remedy the situation, they were insistant I pay the higher rate. Then to top it off, as I was leaving after my booked three crummy nights had finished, awoken each morning at 9 am, as they bashed tiles with a hammer for much needed renovations, they insisted I did not pay for the three nights, which I then had to argue about with them and they backed off only after I showed them an online credit card payment, which was ridiculous. It very much felt like a last minute shakedown attempt and left a bitter parting taste in my mouth. I do not recommend this hotel

A very good choice, considering the highly overpriced offer in Cartagena. Our room had air-conditioning and a little balcony; I suppose we got one of the best rooms because we made the reservation well in advance. The room is simple, but clean. There is no hot water, indeed, but cold water is not cold at all and is actually quite refreshing. The hotel staff in very nice and helpful. The hotel offers organized tours as well. There is a kitchen you can use and a small terrace in the second floor, if you want to sunbathe. The hotel is well situated; just around the corner of Calle de la Media Luna, with all the restaurants and bars and also the posher version of the hotel (Casa Villa Colonial) if you need more luxury.

Not much, unfortunatly
Poor, very poor showers. Dirty bathroom. Bad bed. Noisy place. They tried to overcharge me when I left (double the price!). Thank god I had the print from hotel.com reservation. Much better options close by.
